Celebrate Children….Prevent Abuse
Saturday, April 26, 11 am – 3pm, Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon.
Healthy Start and the Child Abuse Prevention Partnership will sponsor “Celebrate Children….Prevent Abuse,” a free, fun event for families. The purpose of the festivities is to celebrate children and families. The fair will include lots of kid-friendly booths, activities and presentations related to honoring children and preventing abuse. For further information, call, 957-4622. Blue Lapel Ribbons
Throughout the month of April, blue lapel ribbons made by Girl Scouts and students in public schools, Phoenix School, Riverside Center, the UCC JOBS program, and with ADAPT counselors will be distributed through out the county in agencies, organizations, Umpqua Bank and other local banks and businesses to bring attention to issues related to child abuse and prevntion. You are encouraged to wear your blue ribbon to remind all adults that every child should be safe. After April we encourage you to place your blue ribbon on a mirror, or file cabinet or other place to remind that every child should be safe 12 months a year.
Calendars, Partners and Sponsors Lists, Ribbon Baskets
Calendars of April events and partners and sponsors lists will be available with the ribbon baskets at Partners, organizations and businesses.
Banners, “Together We Can Prevent Child Abuse”
During April, two highly visible outdoor banners (8' X 25' and 6’ X 30’) will be displayed at the Douglas County Health Department and Mercy Hospital. They will read "Together We Can Prevent Child Abuse." Other agency banners will be displayed around Roseburg.
Children’s Art Displays
Through April 12, Umpua Valley Arts Center, “Leap into Learning”
Posters focusing on “Every Child a Safe Child” made by students from Phoenix School, Riverside Center and Jolane School are displayed at the entrance to gallery 2.
“Celebrate Children,” will be featured at Umpqua Bank, downtown branch. Art will be contributed by children from the Family Development Center, Douglas County Relief Nursery. There will be a silent auction for the art as well as a display of cards which are sold at Family Development Center.
At participating schools in Roseburg, Myrtle Creek, South Umpqua, Canyonville and Glide.
The Third Grade Writing Project, “I feel loved when…. is written and illustrated by 3rd graders. Their work will be displayed in their schools and throughout their communities. This project is sponsored by Family Development Center with participation coupons provided by Parkview Skating Center and Papa Murphy’s. <Page 3 > |
