Local Cost and Need:

From the News-Review Editorial, January 13, 2005:

“Far too many children in Douglas County are victims of abuse each year. In 2005, officials reported 166 county children were victims of some kind of abuse or neglect, either sexual or physical abuse or inadequate access to food or shelter. Another 156 were in threatening situations where there was an extreme risk of harm…we in Douglas County should not be willing to tolerate anywhere near this amount.”

Approximately 70% of child abuse/child welfare cases are directly related to parental meth use. Such cases in Douglas County have increased almost 50% in the last 20 months….Of 375 children born to local probationers, 285 no longer live with their parents.
